Storm Associates have partnered with one of the fastest-growing renewable energy companies in the UK, this client specialises in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of large-scale commercial solar PV projects around 250KW and above. Our client is on the market to expand by bringing on board a senior technical designer who has experience working with commercial rooftop and ground mount PV.

The Role

  • Experience in designing solar in size Both DC and AC aspects using AutoCAD preferably on both ground mount (5MW) and rooftop systems.
  • Ideally graduated from an electrical engineering background
  • Very good understanding of LV and HV connections
  • Knowledge of using Amtec Cable Calculation or similar AC Cable calculation software. (If not, able to manually calculate cable sizes)
  • Experienced in using PVSOL/ PVsyst
  • Ideally located near or around Birmingham
  • Ideal knowledgeable / experienced In the Battery solution systems

Overall, we are looking at someone who as clear/proven record of designing solar systems and understands and has been involved in all aspects of design relating to such systems such as:

  • Development of customer-specific photovoltaic concepts as well as detailed design and implementation planning including yield simulations.
  • Organising and analysis of Topographical and utility survey results to support system design and piling locations.
  • Designing within planning constraints and Flood Risk assessment constraints. Support planning applications with design drawings.
  • Evaluation of the technical implementation options and selection of suitable mounting system and modules considering local conditions
  • Review and amend the final site plans to ensure compliance with other design considerations such as planning and Structural Engineering
  • Support of sales and purchasing with layout and technical issues in the offer
  • Close working and good communication with colleagues in DNO, procurement, operations, legal, project development, project management and the subsidiaries
  • Preparation of as-built layouts and drawings package, technical documentation after completion of a projectInteract with Sales team and the rest of engineering disciplines to integrate specifications into the design concept

Your profile, Experience & Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm towards decarbonisation and renewable energy
  • Completed degree in electrical/civil/mechanical engineering or comparable completed vocational training in the technical field (e.g. technical system planner) preferably with several years of relevant professional experience.
  • Understanding Topography drawings
  • Understanding SLD’s and Point of LV and HV connections
  • Understanding Earthing calculations
  • Understanding roadwork designs in solar farms, compound layout setups etc
  • Be able to visit sites and understand the Point of connection and derive a solution for connecting the solar system to the Point of connection
  • Familiarity with the interactions between developer, EPC and TA in utility-scale PV project development
  • Be able to draw all findings such as SLD’s or layouts on CAD, displaying excellent AutoCAD skills. Ability to setup and manage drawings, X-reference, blocks, etc.
  • Experience in Solar PV Design, being able to use relevant software such as Amtech -PVSOL – PVSYST to calculate cable sizes and system configurations
  • Knowledge of PV industry modelling and simulating assumptions. Including bifacial panels and single-axis trackers
  • Knowledge of Energy Storage Systems
